We do a lot of event looks here in the Bronx, and one thing we hear often after a “very nice makeover” is that you want it to stay looking that way through photos, hugs, and a long night out.
The single most important rule in the first 24 hours after your Special Event Makeup Application is simple: keep your hands off your face and keep water and heavy sweat away. That means no rubbing, no “quick rinse, ” and no steamy workouts. Your base, setting products, and lash glue need time to stay locked in so your finish stays smooth and photo-ready.
The first 24 to 48 hours: what to do (and what to stop doing)
Right after we finish your Special Event Makeup Application, your look is fresh, set, and ready for your lighting and theme. Keeping it that way comes down to a few non-negotiables, especially if you’re dealing with Bronx heat, crowded venues, or a full night of dancing.

Blot first. Always. Use blotting papers to lift oil and moisture without moving your foundation. Then press a small amount of pressed powder exactly where you’re shiny, usually the T-zone. Save swiping motions for your lipstick, not your complexion.

- Don’t pick at mascara or liner flakes. Add a little cleanser, loosen it, then wipe gently.
- If you’re wearing lashes, don’t tug them off dry. That’s how you take your natural lashes with them.
Small detail that helps: if you’re coming from Williamsbridge or Wakefield, pack your touch-up kit before you leave the house. A short subway or bus ride into Manhattan or Westchester is enough time for heat, friction, and phone calls to start breaking makeup down.
Your touch-up kit checklist (so you’re not borrowing someone’s powder)

Soak a cotton pad with an oil-based cleanser and press it along the lash band for 20 to 30 seconds. Then lift the lash from the outer corner inward. If it resists, add more remover and wait. Don’t pull.
Makeup removal tip: Double-cleanse. Use an oil cleanser first to dissolve long-wear makeup, then follow with a gentle cleanser. Avoid aggressive scrubbing or exfoliation for 24 hours.
And if you’re wearing contacts, take them out before you start removing eye makeup. It keeps remover and mascara particles out of your eyes.
